We are now officially in Autumn here in the Northern Hemisphere. The color is coming a little late, but if it is because of the good weather hanging on as it has, I won’t complain. I can be patient. Winter will be here eventually and just as long as ever I’m sure. If you’re out enjoying the fall colors, please be respectful of those who are hunting. We’re lucky enough to have plenty of land around here for everyone to enjoy.

The majority of you did not attend the hike today with me, so I will tell you all about it briefly. It turned out to be a very nice walk in the woods on some old roadway through the woods. Prior to the hike, I reviewed some old notes by longtime CPRA historian Al Ransom of the area I hiked. There was mention of a meteorite. But don’t get too excited, for it wasn’t found. Someday I may have to try again. We did walk by the headwaters of the Castleton River and some old growth trees.

Today leaves only one event on the CPRA calendar for 2016. It may sound like I’m hyping it up, but this could be a do not miss event! The guest speaker is named Ron Morgan and personally, I am really looking forward to his presentation.

– October: On Sunday the 16th, at 1pm, the annual meeting and potluck dinner will be held at the Community Hall in Benson Village next to the Old School. Speaker will be Ron Morgan. He will give a presentation on General Arthur St Clair’s decision to retreat from Ticonderoga and Mount Independence along the Military Road through Hubbardton to Rutland and connecting with the Crown Point Road. Following the meeting, interested people will be able to explore two nearby cemeteries. Bring your place setting and a dish to share. The public is welcome to the meeting and/or the lecture.
